4 Funny Things You Never Knew About Divorce

by Sheila Winters

Marriage and divorce is talked about quite a bit these days. The random, interesting facts surrounding this phenomenon, however, are rarely discussed. Most people today think about divorce and they think about the rising rates and the effects that this situation may have on families. This article is here to tell you about some funny ways to deal with divorce, how people have attempted to prevent it in the past, and some strategies for predicting the outcome of a marriage. Let's lighten the mood a little bit!

Superstitions about marriage and divorce date back as far as marriage itself. One of these superstitions involves placing a bottle of horse glue under your pillows. This will supposedly "glue" your marriage back together if you are having issues and considering divorce. A more common superstition is the one that says that if a marriage is performed on an odd day of the month, it will have a much higher possibility for divorce. As evidence for this claim, April Fool's Day has the highest divorce rate.

The process of predicting if a marriage would be successful or doomed from the start was performed in several different ways in the past. One common method, involved tying a married couple together and dropping them into a huge vat of water. If the couple's marriage was doomed, they would drown in the tank. If their marriage was going to be successful, however, they would able to find a way to swim together to the side of the tank and live out their happy married lives.

It was common practice to administer punishment to wives and husbands that had committed adultery. A very effective technique that was used to discipline cheating husbands was to make them wear blinders that would normally go on horses so that they may not be tempted to look at women other than their wives when they would go into town. The fact that this system of punishment was so effective raises the question of whether men are truly smarter than horses after all.

If you are looking for a way to forge back together a falling apart relationship, you have a few different options. One unique way to attempt to save your marriage is called "parachute jump therapy". The technique has couple jump out of an airplane at the same time. If that does not seem scary enough, one of their parachutes is defective and they do not know whose. This couple has to work together so that they both reach the ground safely.
