Marriages often fail because of emotional disconnections, unresolved conflicts, disaffection and a whole lot more. Such ordeals are experienced by 6,646 couples that succumb to a divorce on a daily basis.

The documentation of a decided divorce - called a divorce record, is a comprehensive account of all events that transpired during its proceeding. Records of divorce serve as proof that a marriage has been dissolved, after the decision of a Judge in a Court of Law wherein it was filed. Due to the comprehensive marital details outlined in a divorce record, they can be used for extensive background checks about a person's marital history, especially for persons who wish to remarry. This mentioned groups of people also seek out copies of records of divorce because it is a requirement for the procurement of a new marriage license.

Different states across America adopt different means when it comes to the maintenance and dissemination of their public records. In the State of Arkansas, divorce-related documents are held by state and county repositories. The state-wide documents, called divorce coupons, are the bottom parts of divorce certificates that are removed and held by the Arkansas Department of Health, Vital Records Section. For example, the government does not tolerate the misuse of the files and will punish individuals or parties that will not follow the guidelines. And if the files that you want to access is not under you name, you will not be able to view or access the entire file because some of the information included on it are considered classified. Classified pieces of information are kept in private to preserve the privacy of its owners. However, you will get a verification that will reveal vital pieces of information that are enough to prove the validity of a divorce.

Searching For Public Divorce Records

by Claire Dowell

One of the many open state in the country is North Carolina. Being an open state would mean that the state allows its local residents to access their person files anytime they have a need for it. Divorce records in North Carolina are one of the public documents that local residents can access.

Divorce is the result of failed marriage and just like marriage; the divorce has to be documented to make it official. Once the couple has been legally separated, they need to update their status and other records in the government. In order to do so, they need to provide a copy of their separation papers to the government office. The request can be denied if the divorce certificate cannot be presented since it would serve as proof of their separation. Another use of such document is when one of the divorcees has plans of marrying again. Checking on the marital status during a background check would also require checking on the divorce record. This is commonly done by the people who want to make sure that they are dating a person who is not yet married or is separated legally.

A divorce certificate in North Carolina would contain details about the separation of a couple. One would know the complete names of the couple along with the details of their marriage such as the date and place where it took place. The document highlights details about when and where the divorce was filed and registered. Since divorce is a crucial and emotional event, not all its details are available for public access. Information such as the reason for the separation and the division of the couple's properties and assets are kept confidential. One cannot find information about the custody of the children on a public file since it is only visible to the individuals involved. All these information is kept private to respect the privacy of the divorcees.

North Carolina releases a copy of the divorce certificate if it occurred from 1958. A $24 processing fee has to be paid in order to get a copy of such document from the state. It is important that the one who requested for the document knows the basic details of the file being requested since it will be used during the retrieval process. Also, the state would only grant the request if it was made by the either one of the divorcees and their immediate family.

The public records of North Carolina are archived at the Vital Records Section of the state. One can go to the office to file the request for a copy of a divorce certificate. If the requested file is not available at the state office, it may be available at the county clerk office where the separation was filed and registered. A mail request can also be sent to the state office but this is not the fastest method to obtain the document since it may take days to get it.

Doing a California divorce records search online can help hasten the retrieval process. One just needs to log on to a website that offers to obtain the information for you. The search online can be done for free or for a certain fee. Many would go for the paid search to ensure that they get quality information.

Researching On Oklahoma Marriage Records

by Claire Dowell

For those who are doing research on their family background, vital records pose a great source of facts as these contain information such as the married parties' background, social status, parents, place of residence as well as occupation during the time. Vital records such as births and deaths are usually available from the States' Health Department whereas marriage and divorce records are available from the county clerk where it was issued or granted. Oklahoma marriage records are available from the clerk of the county and historical records are available from the Oklahoma Historical Society. Requests can also be made to the State's Office and will be forwarded to the county.

US marriage records are often recorded by the county from the time it was first established and as such, many records date back to 1800's. For those requesting for records from the county clerk, one can find several records including marriage bonds, licenses, certificates and affidavits available. To request for copies, one can call, fax or visit the County Clerk Office. Fees collected are standardized, although some counties might charge for other services.

For residents of Oklahoma, records are available from the Oklahoma County Courthouse. The Clerk Office has 175 volumes indexed and this ranges from 1889 up to 1951. The records contain the marriage licenses, certificates of marriage and affidavit of marriage applications. Research requests and copy fees are charged depending on whether the person is a resident or not. For residents, the charge is $20 and for non-residents, it is $30. Other charges include $1 for faxed, computer and microfilmed copies of the records. Standard mailing costs about $.25 per request. Express delivery is available only for Choctaw-Chicksaw marriage records only and costs $10.

For residents of Pittsburg County, marriage and divorce records are available from the McAlester Clerk Court Office. Each copy cost about $15 and requests can be made by mail or in person application. On the other hand, those who need marriage records in Washington County can go to the county clerk of Bartlesville to request for their records. The payment for the reports is also $15 and records date back up to 1940's.

Unlike divorce and criminal records, access to marriage records is not restricted. Researchers looking for marriage records in Jefferson County would find the records available for their perusal at the Waurika Court Clerk Office. Request fee is the same as those of other County office. For older records, one can also check them out at the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) as well as with Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society (SOGS). Records for Jackson County are maintained at the Althus Court Clerk whereas those who want to obtain records from Cherokee County have to visit the Tahlequah County Clerk. Old records are also maintained by OHS. Fees and other charges vary as well and orders can be processed online, in person and by standard mail.

Other ways to obtain marriage records free and conveniently is with the use of commercial public research sites. These online sites allow an individual to search for birth, marriage, death and divorce records as well as some arrest or criminal records free. This is highly recommended as one can easily access the records without having to wait few days to receive them or go to the county clerk to request for copies.

Online Public Divorce Court Records

by Claire Dowell

In Ohio, divorce decrees are public records. Registers of divorce are essential as these are legal documents which can be used in various ways. Such type of record can be used against anyone in question as it is a licit document. This can also be used in checking the background of a particular individual as it contains significant information about the person in question. Information that may be gathered using this register of divorce in Ohio are the details about the divorce such as the date and location of the separation, and the grounds why the couple ended in divorce. These particulars are important to know as they may indicate problems for a future marriage thereby helping an individual make decisions with utmost prudence.

Since divorce registers are public records, anyone in need can request a copy of a divorce record so long as he or she adheres to the policy in procuring such. There are several agencies tapped by the government to maintain vital records such as divorce decrees and assist individuals who wish to get a copy of these essential documents.

In Ohio, the central repository for vital records in the state is the Bureau of Vital Statistics which is maintained by the Department of Health. However, the Office of Vital Statistics does not provide marriage licenses nor divorce decrees. Housed in this division are only the indexes of marriages that occurred from January 1950 to present and divorces recorded from January 1954 to present. Thus, the Division of Vital Records can only provide limited information from divorce abstracts that may be used to locate actual licenses or divorce decrees from the courts.

On the other hand, divorce decrees filed prior to 1851 can only be acquired through the Supreme Court, the Chancery Court, or the Common Pleas Court. Should you wish to procure divorce decrees in Ohio that were filed later that year, you can request access to such records directly from the Office of the County Clerk where the divorce was filed and approved.

It is easy to rout out the needed information when you know the relevant office you should go to and you have the essential details on hand. Significant information that you should provide when obtaining a copy of a divorce record are the complete names of the husband and the wife, date and location of divorce, your name and address, your relationship to the couple, and the reason for obtaining such record. The cost of a copy of a divorce decree in the State of Ohio is $0.03 per page plus postage costs but this varies at county level.

With today's technological advancements, transactions can already be done in an expedited and convenient way in contrast to how things were done back in the old days. Even procuring records can be a piece of cake so long as you have a computer and an Internet connection handy. Simply hire the services of online record providers. If you want to get marriage and divorce records for free, then pull a quick record review online. However, if you're after the quality of the results, then you're better off with the one that charges a minimal fee but yields comprehensive and accurate results.

Online Search For Public Marriage Records

by Claire Dowell

These are the steps on getting a license for a marriage in New York. First, the couple needs to be together to apply for a license to marry. Second, they have to be at the city or town where the wedding will take place. They will have to go to the nearest town or city clerk. Finally, they have to fill out an application form and sign said form in the presence of the clerk. Just a reminder though, the rules are very strict. Only the couples about to be married can fill out the form. This means that the couple can't use representatives or proxies to sign for them. A special power of attorney or notarized marriage license is not a sufficient substitute for one of the couple. Don't worry though; the state of New York doesn't require a blood test or premarital examination so if you can fill out the form you'll be getting your license soon.

Once the couple gets the license, they have to wait for 24 hours from the time it was issued before they can get married. If the couple is 16 years old or older, a special court order from the Supreme Court or County Court may waive the 24 hour period. For those younger than 16, the family court may issue the waiver instead. The marriage license is valid within 60 calendar days from the day it was issued. For same sex marriage applications they generally have to wait for 24 hours after receiving their license.

There are fees that you need to pay to obtain the wedding license. For citizens living in the outside of New York City, the fee is $40 for the certificate of marriage registration. Once the application is submitted, the certificate of registration will be sent to the couple after 15 days. For citizens living in New York City, they can get an accurate list of the fees by going to the nearest clerk.

Marriage documents also have other purposes. To many, they are great reference material in recreating their genealogical family tree. Children may also use the documents to prove their legitimacy especially when claiming inheritance. For others, the papers are additional documents that can be submitted when applying for a divorce. Widows and widowers may also need the marriage certificate if they are planning to claim insurance.

Licenses for other purposes cost about $10. For marriages after 1996, you can get copies at any New York City clerk. For copies in between 1930 to 1955 you need to go to the Manhattan office. The costs for getting marriage documents vary. For genealogical purposes, the fee varies and will depend on the number of years searched to find the wedding record. The standard fee is $22 to search for marriage papers within one to three years period. The costs can go up to as much as $202 for weddings that took place 81 to 90 years ago. When making a request, always provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.

It's a good thing that there are websites that offer free marriage records that you can browse. The search tool makes it easier for you to look for a specific wedding than having to sift through possibly thousands of records. You'll find a lot of websites offering the service and they will only charge you if you need a physical document or a certified record.

Arizona Divorce Records Retrieving Online

by Claire Dowell

Accessing divorce records in the United States is allowed by the government because they are deemed as part of the public domain. If you want to get your hands on Divorce Records Arizona, head to the specific county Clerk of Court that is responsible for making the divorce official. Arizona has an Office of Vital Records but it does not act as a central repository for divorce records. It can only assist you in locating the exact county Clerk of court that has the records you need in case you do not know where it is.

Only divorce files are considered by the court as supporting documents to prove the dissolution of a marriage. Before you tie the knot with your lover, it would not hurt if you check if he or she got involved in a previous marriage or not so you will not have to deal with legal problems one of these days. If you have been married in the past but now want to enter into another marriage, prepare your own divorce file when you apply for a license to marry.

Only the husband, wife, their legal representatives, and any other individual that has the consent of the court can access and view everything that is included on the files. If you are otherwise, you will be given limited access to the files, which includes the names of the husband and the wife and the date and location where the divorce was finalized. Pieces of information that are deemed as personal, like the terms and conditions of the case, are kept private.

To get the records, you have to place a formal request to the county Clerk of Court that has the records you need. You must be able to provide the full name of either of the couple. You can also include additional information that you know about the couple such as their address, date of birth, or occupation to make the search less time-consuming. If you cannot submit your request personally at the Clerk of Court, you can mail it. But that would mean that the return period will be much longer, usually taking two to three weeks. There are corresponding fees for getting the records and they vary depending on which county you are getting them from.

You can also retrieve the files from online search tools that venture in supplying divorce files to the public. If you browse the Internet, you will find various search tools that can help you get the files you need. Fortunately, not all of them can be trusted. In order to check if they are a reliable source or not, research about their background first.

The Internet hosts several sites that can get you the divorce document that you need. You will find sites that have fees and sites that offer Free Divorce Records. The particulars of the entire divorce document will not be revealed to you but you will be given enough to confirm the validity of a particular divorce case. In case you do not have any idea which county exactly to start your search, look a site that will let you search the database of the entire country.
