Ohio Free Divorce Records

by Ben Kingsley

The Ohio Health Department is the office tasked to preserve the records of Divorce in Ohio. They accept requests for the records but they only keep an index of divorce cases that were filed from 1954 to the present date. If you are looking for divorce decrees, you can go to the specific county Clerk of Court that is in-charge of maintaining the records you want to request for. If you are not aware which county the records can be found, you can ask the Health Department.

The Health Department maintains a database where they store digital copies of the divorce records. A request form can be downloaded from the department's website for free. The request form has specific fields that need to be filled out. If you cannot provide the required details for the form, your request will not be accepted. The form needs to be sent back to the department along with other requirements such as a corresponding fee, which is payable by money order or by check. The requirements and the amount of the fee are determined by the county that is maintains the records. There is a no refund policy even if no records are located.

Divorce documents serve as a proof of the official end of a marriage. If a man or a woman has gone through divorce in the past, a divorce document must be presented if he or she wishes to marry again in the future. They can also be used in the division of assets and liabilities, claiming of properties, child custody arrangements, and others.

You cannot start a search if you do not know at least the name of the owner of the files that you want to access. Of course, providing more information will make the entire process speedier especially because it takes quite a while to retrieve them from government offices.

Divorce documents are also available online through certain service providers that specialize in providing the documents. There is no need to worry about legality of getting the records online because they are authorized by the court to do so. You just have to look for legit service providers because fake ones are also present. To get an idea if a service provider is legit or not, check its background and look for what other people are saying about them.

Some people ask the question Are Divorce Records Public because they are not aware that the files are readily available for the public's perusal. The public is empowered by the government to access public files but must observed certain guidelines. For example, the government does not tolerate the misuse of the files and will punish individuals or parties that will not follow the guidelines. And if the files that you want to access is not under you name, you will not be able to view or access the entire file because some of the information included on it are considered classified. Classified pieces of information are kept in private to preserve the privacy of its owners. However, you will get a verification that will reveal vital pieces of information that are enough to prove the validity of a divorce.
