by Ben Kingsley

The state of Indiana divorce records are generated when a couple decides to nullify their marriage because of issues in their relationship that they can no longer resolve. A divorce record is a document that the local residents of Indiana can access and retrieve if they have a need for it.

When the couple decides to separate, it is important that the separation is legally documented so that it can be used in legal transactions. A divorce record is one of the documents used when the couple needs to process any transactions in any government offices. These transactions includes, but not limited to, updating the marital status and the list of dependents and beneficiaries. In genealogy, divorce records may not play a very important role in updating the family tree but it can still cause confusions for the future generation if the separation is not updated in a timely manner. The separation papers are also an important document that has to be presented if one of the divorcees applies for remarriage. Without it application for marriage may not be granted.

One can find the basic details of the divorce in the separation documents generated in the state of Indiana. One would know the real names of the people who were granted legal separated. The date and the place where the couple was granted legal separation can also be found on the document along with some details of the couple's marriage like the date and the place it happened. Unlike other states, the state of Indiana only releases copies of the divorce certificate in the local county office where it was registered. One cannot file the request at the office of the Vital Records Section. The said office can only help in verifying where to request the document. Indiana allows the local residents to request for a copy of their personal documents only, thus, other would have to present a special court order in order to request for a copy of the records of other people.

Going to the county clerk office to conduct a divorce records search is the recommended method in obtaining such document. But with the help of the Internet, the retrieval process has changed and improved. It is now easier and faster to request such document. With this, it has eliminated the need to go to any government office just to file the request. The request can be done anytime and anywhere Internet access is available making it convenient for most of the residents of Indiana.
