Divorce Records Search

by Claire Dowell

Going through a divorce is a painful experience that you would not want to revisit. Often, the pain can be too much that you deliberately erase that part of your life from your memory. There may come a time, however, when you need to look back to the past for awhile. It may be that you have met someone new; someone you want to share your new life with. Or you may need to bring back the painful memories and obtain your Records of Divorce because you need to update your family files. If you live in the United States, getting a copy of your public records won't be a problem as there are several things that you can choose to do.

The first thing that you should work on is check the residency requirements. Only bonafide residents of the county or state where the record exists are allowed to file for requests. In other words, you should have lived in that county or state for a certain number or months or years before you can file for divorce dossier viewing request.

Then you will have to get in touch with a representative of the Vital Statistics Office of the state where your divorce was granted. Some people prefer to visit the office, although most only send their request for Divorce Records by mail. If you are to do so, be sure that you follow proper request procedures. File for one request only; multiple requests are not allowed. Also, you need to be ready with a self-addressed stamped envelope. Be sure that you know the complete details of the record that you need. This includes not only your name and the ex-husband's/ex-wife's name, but also alternate spellings for your names, and the date of the divorce.

If you are not one of the individuals who own the record, you are to indicate your relationship to the divorced couple. The type of final decree that was given should also be indicated in the request, as well as the reason why you need the record, and your driver's license details (for some states only). Like all requests filed with state offices, there is a fee that you need to pay; the amount differs though from one state or county to another. Also, it does not matter if you need Records of Divorce or another type of public record; it is necessary to wait for a couple of days or weeks before getting the record you need as state offices work with tons of requests every day.

Over the years, as the Internet continued to gain popularity, a better option for obtaining copies of public records surfaced. Independent online record providers offer everything that government or state level offices can give you. In fact, some of them may even have more comprehensive databases, so much so that their success rate is better than those of state agencies. The biggest advantage that you get when choosing their services, however, is convenience and efficiency. You won't need to mail requests or move from one state office to another. Everything can be done online. Results come out faster, too, as they are processed immediately after your request is received.

Now you might be thinking twice about hiring online record providers because of all the negative things you are hearing about Internet frauds. This is not an issue with online providers, though, because they offer you absolutely 100% safety from these crooks. You may have to pay a small amount for fee, but this is of a very minimal amount. It is also a one-time payment, for which you get unlimited access to all the Divorce Records you need. You get everything that you want, anytime that you need them. You get the best value for your money. Isn't that simply wonderful?
